We incorporate weekly outreaches into our training. This gives our students the opportunity to be involved in local communities on a weekly basis and thus get training in a more realistic model of ministry.
We have an allocated day in the week dedicated to Local Outreach, which we call LOVE days. We chose this name because it reflects our heart for our local community and it is an acronym for:
L – Local
O – Outreach
V – Valley (Drakenstein Valley)
E – Experience
Every student is committed to one or two of the various ministry opportunities in the Drakenstein Valley (Wellington, Mbekweni, Van Wyksvlei and Paarl) on these days. Students who attend a JoshGen congregation other than the Wellington congregation will have the opportunity to do their LOVE days in that community. This will enable them to minister in the area of their own community and congregation. Currently our student’s involvement includes children’s ministry, community development work, youth ministry, teaching life skills classes at schools, sport coaching, street evangelism and many other interesting areas.
Twice a year TMT is divided into 3-5 smaller teams that visit various locations in South Africa. Each of these outreaches lasts two weeks. The specifics of each outreach are determined by the needs of the community/school/church visited. Some of the places we have visited during the last few years include: Bellville, Bloemfontein, Bonnievale, Bothaville, Camps Bay, Cape Town, De Doorns, Delmas, Ficksburg, George, Klerksdorp, Kroonstad, Krugersdorp, Ladismith, Langebaan, Melkbosstrand, Moorreesburg, Newcastle, Potchefstroom,Paarl, Prince Albert, Randburg, Smithfield, Swellendam, Tzaneen, Uniondale and Worcester and more!
Joshgen is a partner relating to the Four12 movement of churches. There are 3 to 4 international outreach opportunities each year. Students have the opportunity to take part in at least one international outreach during their time with us, since we believe that this is a great opportunity to learn and grow. The cost of these international outreaches are not included in the student fees and therefore each student is responsible for raising the fees necessary for the international outreaches they embark on. Some of the countries we have recently visited are Brazil, England, Italy, Japan, Lesotho, Madagascar, Mozambique, Russia, Ukraine and Zambia.
